KMC mayor takes initiative for inter-agency coordination

KATHMANDU: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balendra Shah initiated discussions with relevant stakeholders to maintain uniformity, coordination, and facilitation in the development activities within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. His meetings were held with relevant agencies to reduce the rising cost of infrastructure and discourage the tendency of demolishing structures immediately after the completion of construction.

Representatives of KMC, Nepal Electricity Authority, Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited, Nepal Telecommunication Authority, Department of Roads (DoR), Melamchi Drinking Water Project, and other agencies were present at the stakeholder meeting on 15th July.
Experts in the field of infrastructure have praised the initiative taken by the KMC mayor at a time when a lack of coordination among relevant agencies has emerged as a key challenge in infrastructure development. For a long time, infrastructure, experts have been lashing out at government agencies for lack of proper coordination in the process of developing and maintaining infrastructures within the KMC.
The meeting presided over by Shah has decided to hold a meeting on the first Monday of every month in a bid to explore ways for project development and service delivery on a coordinated and integrated way.

Likewise, it has been decided to determine the tasks that can be carried out in an integrated manner so that problems that emerge in the process of infrastructure development, can be resolved amicably.
