KATHMANDU: The 900 MW Arun-3 hydropower project under construction on the Arun river in Sankhuwasabh has completed 62 percent of the construction works. Arun Dhiman, Chief Executive Officer of the promoter company said that the project being constructed by SJvin Arun-3 Power Development Company has made physical progress in the generation component. Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) is a public-private sector of India. With the construction progress so far, the project can be completed ahead of the target. SJVN is also constructing a 400 KV transmission line. The 217 km transmission line passes through 22 municipalities of seven districts.
When the project is completed and operational, Nepal will receive 21 percent (197 MW) of the total installed capacity of electricity free of charge. Satluj has been given a 25-year generation license with the provision of handing the project to the Nepal government after the concession period.
The construction of the project has also boosted the economy of the local area.

Investment Board Nepal has honored the Arun-3 project at the ‘Sustainable Infrastructure Investment Forum 2022’ organized by Investment Board Nepal for its significant contribution to the development of the energy sector in Nepal.
