Sankhuwasabha: Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Prakash Saud has said the Kimathanka transit point will be brought into operation soon. Talking to journalists at Tumlingtar Airport, he said the transit point on the Nepal-China border in northern region of Sankhuwasabha district will be re-operated.
The Minister arrived in Sankhuwasabha today. According to him, the transit will be upgraded and re-opened soon as the Chinese government is also positive on opening the transit point. He shared that opening of the transit point is included in the agenda during the visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to the northern neighbour on September 23.
The Foreign Affairs Minister said this topic has been kept in priority of the PM’s visit to China as opening this historic transit point will directly benefit trade and business in the eastern region of the country. He mentioned that the Chinese government is positive also for construction of road and transmission line in Kimathanka.
The people’s representatives and stakeholder bodies have submitted memorandum to Prime Minister Dahal and Foreign Minister Saud before this asking them to take initiatives urging the Chinese government to open the transit. China closed the transit in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. A shortage of food grains and daily consumables has been seen at Bhotkhola as the border transit point remained shut for long.
