Inaruwa substation completed, preparations to operate in 2 weeks

KATHMANDU JULY 6, Sunsari-based 220/133/33 Kv Inaruwa substation is expected to be operational in the next two weeks. The entire construction work of the substation has been completed and it has reached the stage of operation.

Project Chief Shyam Yadav said that internal testing of the substation is underway. According to him, the substation will be charged after loading.

“Even though it is a little later than the target, the substation is now ready for operation,” he said, “We have already charged 33 Kv. Now the test is going on to operate at 220/132 kV. ‘He said there would be no delay in bringing the substation into operation if there were no technical problems during the test.

He said that the quality of the transmission system in the eastern region will improve when the substation comes into operation. Due to problems in the transmission and distribution system, the former industries are not able to get quality electricity service. Volt will also improve when the substation comes into operation.

Similarly, when this substation comes into operation at full capacity, the Tumlingtar-Inaruwa section of the 220 Kv Koshi Corridor transmission line will also come into operation at full capacity. This transmission line is now operated alternately at 33 kV. After the new substation comes into operation, the electricity from Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, and Tehrathum hydropower projects flowing in the Koshi corridor will reach Inaruwa.

The construction of the Inaruwa substation is estimated to have cost Rs. 850 million. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has constructed this substation under the Nepal-India Power Transmission and Trade Project with a concessional loan from the World Bank. The first contract for the construction of the substation was canceled and the second contract was signed in December 2075 BS.

Even though the substation has to be completed and put into operation, during the Corona (Covid-19) epidemic, the construction has been delayed due to flooding and other reasons have been completed. This substation will be operated by an automated system.

The substation has been constructed under the Inaruwa-Hetauda Transmission Line Project with the objective of improving the quality of the transmission system. Another substation is under construction in Hetauda under the same project. When this transmission line is completed and comes into operation, the electricity connected to the Koshi corridor can be brought to Hetauda.
