Nepal will become an electricity exporter round the year by 2025: Energy Minister Bhusal

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, water resources, and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal said that Nepal will be capable of exporting hydroelectricity through the year by 2025.

Minister Bhusal emphasized the need to use surplus energy to generate green hydrogen and take appropriate initiatives to promote it. Bhusal was addressing the ‘Forum on Climate Change and Investment Mobilisation in Efforts to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals’ held in Bangkok, on Thursday for the preparation of COP-27.

Bhusal delivered a virtual address in the meeting session on ‘Climate Finance Investment for Green Energy’ and that Nepal is at a high risk of the effects of climate change due to its unique geographical structure and climate-sensitive lifestyle. She also emphasized the need to find more opportunities with collective efforts to promote investment in green energy.

Bhusal stated that the time has come for countries across the world to work with ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions.

In line with the Green Grid concept, ‘One Sun, One World and One Grid’ has been launched in COP-26. Bhusal also underlined the need to increase the capacity of construction of transmission lines and infrastructure development in countries like Nepal to fulfill the global concept of green energy. Bhusal informed the meeting that 95 percent of the people of the country have been supplied with electricity through the national grid.
