KATHMANDU: Experts have emphasized the need for long-term energy planning and strategy for energy sustainability in Asian nations.
The experts made the remarks at a discussion on Planning for the Asia Clean Energy Forum 2022, jointly organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Tuesday.
Stating that there is a need for an integrated plan for energy policy-making and investment decisions, they said countries in the region can formulate their own sustainable energy policies and strategies by analyzing the energy system through the plan.
They also said that a sustainable energy system needs to be analyzed by formulating sustainable policies and strategies through analysis of energy demand and supply and related methods and tools.
The head of the IAEA Planning and Economics Study ( Who ) underlined the need to prioritize the development of energy in Asian nations to achieve the future energy development and sustainable development goals by 2030 and to implement the Paris Agreement by 2050.
ADB’s chief energy economist Ki Yong Nam and IAEA’s Andril said technical studies of finance, economics, environment, social, etc. were important in formulating energy plans.
The program emphasized the necessity for the analysis of technology with a focus on energy availability and the development of this technology to achieve the goals of Sustainable Development Goals and National Defined Contribution (NDC).
