Nepal-Bangladesh Water Resources Committee to meet on July 12

KATHMANDU: The secretary-level joint meeting of the Nepal-Bangladesh Water Resources Committee is going to be held on 12th July, after an interval of 14 and a half years. Harnessing water resources and flood control are high on the agenda of the meeting to be held in Kathmandu.

Sagar Rai, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) is leading the Nepali delegation while Kabir Bin Anwar, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources is heading the Bangladeshi team. Dr. Maheshwar Shrestha, head of the Water Resources Division of the MoEWRI, who is also attending the meeting, said the meeting will discuss the development of the water resources sector, climate change issues, study and research on water resources, flood control, and exchange of data related to water and weather. Director General of Department of Electricity Development Sandeep Dev, Director General of Department of Water and Meteorology Kamal Ram Joshi, and Director General of Department of Water Resources and Irrigation Shusheesh Chandra Acharya are also representing Nepal at the meeting. Such joint meeting was last held on 26-29 February 2008.
