87 projects receive generation and study permits in three and a half months

KATHMANDU: The Department of Electricity Development (DoED) issued licenses to 87 hydropower projects for power generation during the first three-and-a-half months of the current financial year.

According to Chiranjeevi Chataut, Director General of the DoED, the licenses for 2783 MW of hydropower and solar projects were granted to respective companies between mid-July and the end of October.

During this period, 35 companies have also secured study permits for hydropower projects with a total capacity of 1276.83 MW.

Since the beginning of the current financial year, the DoED has issued study permits for 35 hydropower projects. The generation licenses for 25 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 542.9 MW have also been issued during the period. Similarly, the DoED also granted study permits for 21 solar power projects. The installed capacity of solar power projects that received study permits reached 918.8 MW. Six solar power projects have obtained generation licenses for 44.49 MW during the period.
