KATHMANDU: The number of the registered electric vehicle reached 26 thousand 463 in Nepal.
Data compiled by the Department of Transportation Management shows 5,770 were registered in the current financial year 2022/23 alone, making up 21.80 percent of the total registered vehicles.
Most of the registered vehicles are two-wheelers. There are 13,373 scooters and motorcycles, representing 50 percent of the total number of registrations.
Three-wheelers which include electric rickshaws, loaders, autos, and tricycles, are the second largest number with 8,629 registrations. However, registrations of electric buses are limited to 37.
According to the department’s data, 262 microbuses, jeeps, and vans have been registered so far. Currently, 12 microbuses, jeeps, and vans have been registered from mid-July to mid-November of this year.
Similarly, 4,240 cars have been registered with transport offices across the country. Currently, 59 percent of the registered vehicles are scooters and motorcycles.
In the four months of the current fiscal year, a remarkable number of electric vehicles have been registered from mid-September to mid-October. There are 1,626 electric vehicles that have been registered during the period.
Likewise, 1,571 electric vehicles were registered from mid-October to mid-November and 1,386 from mid-July to mid-August. The lowest number is from mid-August to mid-September, and the number is 1,187.
Among the vehicles, scooters and motorcycles are the most in demand with 59 percent of the total registration.
