DPMs assure FCAN delegation of full government support to resolve existing problems

KATHMANDU: The delegation of the Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal (FCAN) met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel and the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on Monday to acquaint them with the problems of the construction industry. Minister Paudel expressed commitment to study the necessary issues and take initiatives to resolve the problems in this industry.  Stating that infrastructure development is a cornerstone for a country’s prosperity, Paudel said the construction industry should be competent and strong for the timely delivery of infrastructure projects.

“Role of the construction industry for the economic prosperity of the country. The government is ready to extend all-out support to construction entrepreneurs to resolve the problems that exist in this sector,” said Poudel.

Likewise, Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane said that the government would take necessary measures to address the issues raised by construction entrepreneurs.  Lamichhane clarified that the government is eager to collaborate with the private sector, urging the business people not to compromise the quality of construction works.

On the occasion, FCAN president Singh told the Deputy Prime Ministers that the construction industry is facing an extreme crisis due to financing resources. According to the law of public procurement, Singh requested that the government provide the 20 percent mobilization amount that the builders should get.

Singh said that the builders have suffered a blow of severe financial crisis due to the non-payment of even the completed projects. The FCAN delegation also drew the attention of the Deputy Prime Ministers to issues such as the refund of deposits, the implementation of five packages, peace, and security.

The delegation included advisors to the FCAN Yakshadwaj Karki, Tek Bahadur Sethi, Senior Vice President Ang Dorjee Lama, Vice President Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, General Secretary Roshan Dahal, Deputy General Secretary Shivhari Ghimire, Joint Treasurer Santosh Shah, Working Committee Members Ashok Kumar KC, Dan Bahadur Khadka, Ujwal Gautam, Balaju Shrestha, Head of Office Prem Singh Ayer, and others.
