KATHMANDU: Construction of the Chainpur-Wanlekh-New Attaria Transmission Line (TL) is set to be expedited immediately after National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC)- an Indian firm, undertakes the 1200 MW joint West Seti hydropower project. A month ago, a meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to select the company to construct the joint West Seti, which is an integrated entity of West Seti and Seti River-6 hydropower, popularly known as the West Seti-SR-6 Project.
The National Transmission Grid Company is going to build the TL Project on a Line of Credit (LoC) from the Government of India. Netra Prasad Gyawali, CEO of the company, said the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and the Ministry of Finance have already requested the Indian government for the LoC for the TL.
The construction of the TL will start in January 2023. Gyawali also said the 150 km- TL can be used to evacuate power up to 2000 MW. The cost of the TL project is estimated at around Rs 15 billion.
