4th Infrastructure Summit to begin on Thursday

KATHMANDU: The fourth edition of the Nepal Infrastructure Summit is beginning on Thursday with the objective of promoting private investment in the infrastructure sector. The two-day mega event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI). The CNI has been organizing the summits since 2014.

The Summit which is going to be organized with the slogan ‘Infrastructure for Growth’, identifies the major obstacles to infrastructure development including transport, energy, urban development, drinking water, and sanitation.   According to organizers, the event will have an in-depth discussion on green, climate-sustainable infrastructure projects that will help achieve sustainable development goals.

The event will revive the concept of policy reforms in the areas of new financial framework, foreign direct investment, more involvement of the private sector, technology and digital transformation. Extensive discussions will be held between experts, investors, representatives of all three levels of government, and representatives of the private sector.

In various sessions of the conference, former prime ministers, federal government ministers, state chief ministers, metropolitan mayors, officials from National Planning Commission, Nepal Rastra Bank, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and academicians will share their thoughts on recent phenomena on infrastructure and way forwards.
