60k industries generate 500k jobs

KATHMANDU: Almost 0.5 million employments have been generated by over 60,185 industrial enterprises across the country, shows a fresh survey conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The ‘National Industrial Survey, 2076’ report released by the CBS on 15th July states that 60,185 industrial establishments are operating across the country offering jobs to altogether 491,227. Among the employed in the industrial sector, 444,964 are involved in industrial production, 6,485 in mining and quarrying, 21,593 in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioned services, and 18,185 in water supply, sewerage, waste management, and its treatment activities. Individuals involved in industrial establishments include businessmen, their partners, paid family workers, and salaried workers.

The number of employees and workers who regularly receive salaries and wages in industries across the country is 3,81,687. The report also shows that altogether 3,46,143 people are employed in industrial production, 5,719 people in the mining and quarrying sector, and 17,238 in the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning service sector and water supply, sewage disposal, waste management, and its treatment. 12 thousand 587 people are employed in the activity. The study department has taken the reference period from 1 July 2075 to mid-July 2076. Accordingly, the results of the survey have been made public almost two years after the study was completed.
